The majority of Watertite's office staff, have worked their way up, from being on the tools, to their current managerial positions; which is a fact that we at Watertite are very proud of, and we believe gives us an edge over many of our competitors. It is something that is constantly highlighted as a strong point of our business, by clients and fellow contractors. The 16 full time staff have an aggregate length of service to Watertite of over 250 years, or an average of 15 years service each.
We currently employ 41 operatives on the tools, all directly on the books. Of those 41, there are 10 ventilation ductworkers, 6 service engineers, 3 A/C engineers, 22 commercial plumbers/pipefitters/pipefitter welders/installers/assistants, (14 of which hold SSSTS or SMSTS qualifications) and 2 apprentices. They have an aggregate length of service to Watertite of well over 300 years, or an average of 10 years service each.
All of our operatives receive regular training and updates across the whole industry, and many hold PASMA, IPAF, Gas Safe Register etc., so we can service all elements of the mechanical services trade.
We strongly believe in consistency. We will appoint a foreman to a project at the start and hand pick his team according to the requirements of that particular project and their individual skillsets. Mechanical Services is a large field and many of the guys have areas of particular expertise (be it plumbing, pipefitting, welding, ductwork or A/C). Once a team is picked, we try very hard to maintain that team throughout the project. We actively encourage our foremen to “own” their jobs. It really is a big thing for us at Watertite. We directly employ far more operatives than the general industry norm for a company of our size. We go out of our way to offer our guys continuous employment and as a consequence of this, we have full control of our own labour and the skills they require to deliver a first class installation, whether it is a prestigious private dwelling, a care home, apartments, a hospital, a school, a factory or an office block.
Luke Monk (Estimating & Design Department Manager) and Justin Dawe (Senior Estimator) ensure all our tenders leave the office as fully compliant bids, whether they are D&B, or traditionally pre-designed projects.
Andy Carter is our in house Design Engineer. Andy has extensive experience having worked as a Mechanical Design Engineer at three different county councils over a 30 year period, before joining Watertite in 2012 where, in conjunction with Luke Monk & Jim Elliott, he carries out the design, for our D&B projects, and develops working drawings on the traditional pre-designed projects using the latest CAD software packages.
Watertite are therefore fully capable of complete in-house design, and we more frequently get asked to assist our clients with developing, or value engineering, an existing consultants design. We welcome a collaborative approach, but we are equally comfortable to produce our own design, or for large scale projects, we have existing relationships with external M&E Consultants, that we have employed to undertake the design under our stewardship.
We believe that one of the keys to the smooth running of any project, is good communications and excellent relationships between client, client’s architect & consultant, the main contractor and of course other appointed contractors. We absolutely pride ourselves on building and maintaining these relationships. There is no better reference than a personal one from a previous client and we are happy to provide these on request.
We employ our own in-house Health & Safety Co-ordinator – Mark Austin. Mark has an IOSH qualification and is working on his NEBOSH qualification. He gets external support, when needed, from Nat West Mentor. Mark makes regular site visits to all our sites and carries out H&S Site Audits with our Foremen. Mark has been with Watertite for 15 years.
Over the years we have also built up a core team of trusted specialist sub-contractors, that we have come to trust to fully buy in to our Watertite way. A reliable supply chain is vitally important to any project.
To compliment our installation team, we also have 6 highly skilled and qualified service & maintenance engineers & 2 qualified water hygiene engineers. Again they are all directly employed by us, so we have full control over their activities. The majority of their time is taken up doing planned service and maintenance, but they are also fully equipped and able to carry out reactive maintenance to breakdowns on all aspects of our industry. Watertite are able to offer this service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to existing clients.
The day to day running of the office in general, along with wages, finance in and out and HR is managed by Sarah Fudge with back-up and admin support from Amy Polson & Becky Maguire.
The directors of Watertite Heating Limited are very proud of our company and the reputation we have built. We are always honest and approachable, and we will endeavour to service our client's requirements at all times. We are also proud of the fact that we now have a "3rd-generation" employee (Billy Wintersgill; grandson of director Jack Wintersgill).
