St John’s Church, High Street, Glastonbury is the principal Anglican Church in the historic town of Glastonbury and is part of the Diocese of Bath & Wells. This medieval church was closed for most of 2019 to allow extensive sympathetic refurbishment and re-ordering.
The primary purpose of the works was to create a modern, fresh, and flexible interior within a medieval church building to enhance worship, to provide an open space for a variety of worship and community activities, and to display and celebrate the historical legacy of the building and its prominent place within the Town of Glastonbury.
To do this, the design and construction team undertook the following: -

Mechanical Objectives: Install new upgraded boiler plant, with 2 new heating distribution pipework circuits and a new UFH System and heating controls.
Solution: The existing perimeter radiators were refurbished and reused. New boiler plant was selected to compliment the split use of UFH and perimeter heating. New UFH was installed throughout the main floor space.
User friendly heating controls were specified by BJP to simplify selection of heating controls for various church activities.
