Projects / Yeovil District Hospital – Energy Performance Contract (EPC)

Our Client is delivering a 15-year Energy-Performance Contract (EPC) at Yeovil District Hospital, converting their ageing steam-based heating system to a modern, economical and resilient low-temperature hot water (LTHW) system, alongside substantial measures to reduce the energy demand. The project will save a guaranteed £5.8m over the term of the contract (at today's energy prices).

The old system comprised three steam boilers in a central plant room, serving properties on both sides of a busy main road, supported by a combined heat and power (CHP) unit, to provide electricity and additional heat. Heat was distributed via a steam main to calorifiers and plate-heat exchangers, to supply heating and hot water. Cynergin designed a solution comprising four dual-fuel boilers (gas and oil, for back-up) plus an additional CHP (to service the increased Electrical demand from new clinical equipment, such as MRI scanners. The four 1.6 megawatt boilers provide "N 1" resilience and LTHW Heating is distributed via a new pipe network to various sub-plant rooms. Watertite executed the entire mechanical installation in close conjunction with Cynergin’s technical team and the Trust’s Estates Department.

Watertite were subsequently employed to carry out the ongoing full service & maintenance.
